Palestinian-American Adolescent Released Following Nine-Month Period in Israeli Custody

A Palestinian-American youth who spent nine months in imprisonment by Israel absent formal charges gained freedom.

Mohammed Ibrahim had just turned 15 during his detention in February in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, where he was visiting from his Florida home accused of stone-throwing at Jewish settlers, which he previously denied.

United States authorities said it welcomed the news of Mohammed's release.

Currently aged sixteen, required hospitalization right after being freed, relatives told the media.

They said he is pale, underweight, and experiencing medical problems developed during imprisonment.

Via family representatives, Mohammed's uncle expressed the family's "immense relief".

The uncle, Zeyad Kadur stated the family experienced "living a horrific and endless nightmare" over the last nine months.

"Currently, our priority is ensuring Mohammed receives the immediate medical attention necessary for his recovery after being subjected to Israel's abuse and inhumane conditions throughout his detention."

American authorities stated they would maintain to provide consular support for the Ibrahim family.

{"American leadership considers paramount to the protection and welfare for United States citizens"," it added.

A group of American legislators endorsed a document to US authorities and the administration, demanding more be done for his freedom.

The father, with four children operating an ice cream shop based in Tampa, had earlier stated his child admitted guilt regarding stone throwing after being assaulted by soldiers.

The father hadn't visited or communicated with his son since February, learning information solely about his son's condition via legal paperwork.

Mohammed was held lacking indictment in Ofer prison in the West Bank.

The facility also contains grown detainees, featuring prisoners sentenced regarding severe security violations including killings.

There are around 350 Palestinian minors in security custody currently imprisoned in Israel, based on prison authority data.

Many have never been charged while advocacy organizations, as well as the United Nations, report instances of physical abuse and torture.

Following Mohammed's release, the uncle stated the family would also continue fighting demanding accountability for their family member Sayfollah Musallet.

The 20-year-old dual US citizen according to health authorities succumbed to assault by settlement residents following tensions in July.
