Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was dismissed on the weekend after the squad's 10-match without a victory beginning to the Premier League season.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic associations to the club - are part of the options to be considered by the Wolves leadership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would create a possible hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town manager - who played over a century of games for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves board as they begin the process of hiring a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a surprising choice given he was released by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham player is out of work which means Wolves would not be required to provide any compensation.
